Reflections

Here it is, a new year.

This time last year we were weathering the brutal cold of an Edmonton winter. January was especially cold and only reinforced our decision to retire and move to Belize.

February we sold, gave away, or threw out almost everything we owned. We downsized to what a small SUV could hold and headed to Victoria where we put most of it into storage.

March we headed to Belize. We arrived on Caye Caulker and found short term places to live while waiting for our long term rental.

April was Bob's birthday and we went to the Belize Zoo for the first time.

May we moved into the Sand Castle.

June we held onto each other as Tropical Storm Arthur cruised over the caye and nearly drowned us. We took a quick trip to Victoria, then when we came back we headed to Hopkins for a visit. We met some great people and had a wonderful time.

July was a lazy month as we just hung around home, doing some swimming and tanning as we could.

August we went to Maya Beach and Placencia to check out the area. We found we liked it a lot.

September we said goodbye to our friends on Caye Caulker and moved to the Diving Pelican in Maya Beach. We made some new friends and learned to kayak and went snorkelling at False Caye (a twenty minute paddle from our beach). At the end of the month we went to Corozal to pick up our friend Tracy who came to visit us from Edmonton Alberta.

October our visit with Tracy continued and we went to Punta Gorda for the first time and Nim Li Punit as well. We snorkelled at the reef during our visit to Caye Caulker and returned again to Lamanai.

November had the next visitor, Joyce, who also is from Edmonton. We picked Joyce up in Corozal and brought her back to Maya Beach for much needed rest and relaxation.

December had us heading back to Caye Caulker for some snorkelling at the reef and birthday dinner at Habeneros. We also made it to Caves Branch (Hummingbird Highway) for some cave tubing. At the end of the month, Bob's daughter, Tamara came to visit.

January we continued our visit with Tamara and went to San Ignacio where we went to Xunantunich. We also went to Jaguar Paw for some more cave tubing, this time more tubing than caving. Back to Caye Caulker for a sunset sail and of course, snorkelling at the reef.

Wonder what next year holds for us.
